This was a picture I took very early on in the figure project. My idea was to create contrast by having one of the figures in the mirror. I really like this image because it seems as if the figure in the back is holding the figure in the front.

I really liked the addition of this photo to my portfolio, every image I took was simple with a small twist. I kept this one simple, which helped capture the complexity of the figure itself.

Guiding Question: How can a simple image make the viewer ask a question?

Artist statement: My goal during the figure project was to capture ordinary faces and turn them into something more complex. I wanted the viewer to ask questions about my work. I think turning very simple images into complex art pieces was challenging and fun.

This is by far my favorite piece. Underneath the paint, there is just an ordinary picture of Titan. I liked using oil paint to give this picture a sarcastic feel. It looks like something a 2nd grader would draw, which ironically makes it more complex and abstract.

This is the same picture of Titan underneath, but I couldn't help but take this picture in a different direction. I wanted to create a piece that looked animated and messy. I really like the blast of color in this image.

This was a happy accident. I accidentally exposed part of my paper in the darkroom. It created a black area, which I really liked. It added complexity to the image. I believe it complements the solarization very well.
